Some of the information for this story was found in the May 21 edition of the Oil City Derrick PAINT TWP. – Defending District 9 champion and PIAA runner-up Johnsonburg scored six combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings to erase a two-run deficit and get a 9-7 win over Clarion in the opening round of the District 9 Class A baseball playoffs Tuesday afternoon at the Clarion County Park. Craig Carrow had the big hit in the fifth inning for Johnsonburg, a three-run home run. Clarion led 4-0 at the end of the first inning thanks to back-to-back-to-back doubles from Cody Zacherl, Dan Walters and Jon Kemmer. Those hits drove Carrow, the Johnsonburg starters from the mound before he recorded and out. But Seth Streich relieved Carrow and came up big going seven innings and allowing just three runs with two of those tallies coming in the bottom of the seventh. He allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out eight. Kemmer took the loss for Clarion going 5 1/3 innings and allowing nine runs, all of them earned, on nine hits, a walk and two hit batters.. He recorded eight strike outs in the losing effort. Ren Yonker and Streich each added home runs for Johnsonburg, while Seth Peterson had three RBIs. Johnsonburg (8-8), the 11th seed, will now travel to third-seeded Kane for a 4:30 p.m. game Thursday. |
