BROOKVILLE 3, CRANBERRY 0

May 22, 2008 - District 9 Class AA Baseball Playoffs Semifinals at Cranberry

SENECA – Jacob Means tossed a three-hitter, striking out 12, to lead the Brookville Raiders to a 3-0 win over the Cranberry Berries in the District 9 Class AA baseball semifinals Thursday afternoon.

Means needed just 90 pitches in the complete-game win. He didn't walk a batter and only one runner got past first base.

The Raiders (14-7) scored all three of their runs on two-out hits. Michael Lindermuth doubled in a run in the second inning and Greg Sobol singled in two runs in the third inning.

Cranberry starter Norm Felmlee pitched well, tossing a four-hitter and striking out nine while walking one, but there was no margin for error with Means on the mound. Means upped his scoreless inning streak to 14 and won his fifth game of the year.

Cranberry (12-4) was the higher seeded team, but lost its second game of the year to the Raiders, who will try to win their fourth straight district title next Wednesday against Redbank Valley or Karns City at a site and time to be announced.

NOTES - The game lasted less than 90 minutes ... Redbank Valley and Karns City were postponed Thursday and will play at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Redbank Valley.
