Courier-Express BROCKWAY – Curwensville’s Holly Lansberry had one of the most interesting playoff pitching lines you will ever see while helping her team to a 6-3 win over Elk County Catholic in the District 9 Class A semifinals Tuesday afternoon at Brockway. The Lady Tide hurler allowed 11 hits, a walk and three runs, two of them earned, to the Lady Crusaders put also recorded 19 of her 21 outs by strikeout helping the defending District 9 and PIAA champions into the title game for the third straight year. Offensively, Tess Bloom had two RBIs for Curwensville, while Shannon McDonald, Erin Bressler and Morgan Peterman each had two hits. Peterman also scored a pair of runs and had an RBI, while Bressler added a run scored and an RBI and McDonald a run scored. Top-seeded Curwensville, which beat ECC 7-0 in the title game last year, jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. ECC, which got three hits each from Loren Olewnik, Mary Kate Minnick and Kayla Leuschel and two from Anna Hawkins, answered with a run in the third before Curwensville made it 6-1 with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The Lady Crusaders scored their final two runs in the seventh. Minnick added two RBIs for ECC, while Leuschel scored two runs. Marissa Bauer took the loss going six innings and allowing six earned runs on 10 hits while striking out three. She didn’t walk a batter. Last season, the Golden Tide eliminated the Hubbers from the postseason with a 4-3 victory in the District 9 semifinals. NOTES – Curwensville has won nine District 9 softball titles including eight in Class AA and last year’s Class A title … It was the fourth straight season ECC and Curwensville have met in the postseason. ECC won the first two meetings but Curwensville has won the last two … The loss snaps a streak of four straight appearances in the District 9 Class A title game for ECC. The Lady Crusaders won the title game in 2005 and 2006 but lost in 2004 and last season. CURWENSVILLE 6, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 3 Score by Innings ECC
