WELLSBORO – The Coudersport boys’ basketball team escaped from Wellsboro with a hard-fought 53-51 win Thursday night to improve to 2-0 on the season. Blair Heimel scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the final three quarters, and he and Derek Burdick delivered some key baskets down the stretch after teammate John Hau fouled out with Burdick hitting all three of his 3-pointers after intermission. Wellsboro took advantage of some sluggish early play by Coudersport to take a 14-8 lead after one period, but the Falcons cut the gap to 28-26 by the break. There were eight lead changes in the second half before Coudersport put the game way with a key defensive rebound and conversion on the other end by Heimel. Junior Jake Coolidge led Wellsboro with 21 points.
