Smethport's Phalon tops 1,000 career points

KANE – Smethport’s Diana Phalon became the first District 9 player this season to eclipse 1,000 career points when she scored 22 in the Lady Hubbers 51-44 double overtime win at Kane Thursday night.

Phalon, who has 1,003 career points, is the first Smethport player to go over 1,000 career points since Amber Conn passed the mark in 2002. She is the fourth known Lady Hubber to eclipse 1,000 career tallies.

Smethport (2-2) needed all of Phalon’s points then some to beat Kane (3-2).

The game was tied at 38 at the end of regulation and at 41 at the end of the first overtime before the Lady Hubbers outscored the Lady Wolves 10-3 in the second overtime.

Lauren Kinniburgh added nine points for Smethport, while April Alfieri chipped in with eight.

Kane was led by a balanced scoring effort. Trisha Johnson and Bree Bergman each had nine points for the Lady Wolves, while Dani Kocjancic added six points and Andrea Saquin and Chelsea Mague each had five.
