GALETON – Cameron County used defense and rebounding to get a 56-29 win at Galeton Saturday.

The Red Raiders forced 26 turnovers including 21 on steals while outrebounding the Tigers 41-16.

“I told the kids they needed to step up to the plate and start supporting the whole team,” Cameron County head coach John Barnhart said. “This is a team effort. I was proud of the way they handled themselves. It was a whole team effort.”

Cameron County, who entered the game having lost two of its first three games including an 89-62 setback to Punxsutawney Wednesday, wasted little time taking control of the game Saturday jumping out to a 16-5 lead in the first quarter behind eight points by Jordan Crane.

The Red Raiders led was nine, 32-23, at halftime, and would have been more expect for a half-court, buzzer-beating shot by Galeton’s Tom Brander.

Cameron County, though, didn’t allow the half-court shot to deter them in the second half using defense to build the lead 46-27 at the end of three quarters. Galeton scored just six points in the second half.

Crane had a double-double for Cameron County with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Dan Sullivan led the Red Raiders with 11 points while adding eight steals.

Brander and Matt Shadle led Galeton with 11 points each.
