PORT ALLEGANY – Derick. According to the Baby Name book, Derick means "power of the tribe". To the St. Marys Flying Dutchmen Basketball team, it means a player of the opposing team who makes a last second 3 point field goal tying the game and ultimately causing defeat in overtime.

For the second consecutive week, St. Marys saw a player named Derick hit a 3 point field goal as time expired in regulation. Last week it was Derrick Burdick of Coudersport.  This time, Derick Morey of Port Allegany. Morey's three with .9 seconds left tied the game at 55-55, and the Gators added 11 point in the overtime period to pull out a 66-62 non-league win over St. Marys.

For the second consecutive game, St. Marys clawed back from a double digit halftime deficit, 32-20. Dutchman Brett Quiggle's 3 pointer with 6.3 seconds left appeared to seal the comeback for the Dutch. But Morey's three-pointer sent the game into overtime, where the Gators converted 5-of-8 from the charity stripe to pick up the win.

Brett Quiggle led all scorers with 30 points.  He hit 8 of 16 from beyond the 3 point arc, including a perfect 4 for 4 in the fourth quarter to key the Dutch comeback.   Matt Guido added 14 points and nine assists.  Jon Petrocchi, filling in for an injured Levi Welder, scored a career best eight points and grabbed five boards.

Offensively for Port Allegany, four players scored in double figures, led by Josh Rosenswie's 17. Morey had 15, Bryce Healy 13 and Josh Guerrero tallied 11.

St. Marys falls to 3-6 overall on the season, 0-1 in District 9 league play and are now off until next weekend when they participate in the Elk County Holiday Tournament at St. Marys Area High School Friday and Saturday night.

Port Allegany improves to 6-2 overall, 2-1 in AML league action.  The Gators return to action on December 26th in their own Holiday Tournament.
