Dec. 28, 2007 - Opening Round of the Elk County Holiday Tournament at St. Marys

But thanks to 12, third-quarter points by freshman sensation Kayla Hoohuli, who scored a game-high 31 points, the Lady Dutch erased the 1-point halftime deficit with a 24-4 third-quarter run that helped them get a 68-42 win.

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Lady Dutch found themselves in unfamiliar territory at halftime of the semifinal contest of the Elk County Holiday Tournament trailing the Johnsonburg Ramettes 24-23.

 

But thanks to 12, third-quarter points by freshman sensation Kayla Hoohuli, who scored a game-high 31 points, the Lady Dutch erased the 1-point halftime deficit with a 24-4 third-quarter run that helped them get a 68-42 win. Mandy Stinchcomb added six points and three steals in the quarter.  The Lady Dutch also turned up the defense by going to a strong man to man and holding the Lady Ramettes to only 4 points in the third quarter.

 

Emily Hathorn added nine points, and Stinchcomb six for St. Marys.

 

Abbey Grumley led Johnsonburg with 16 points, Ellie Kocjancic added nine and Taylor Harvey seven.

 

NOTES – The 31 points marked the third time this season Hoohuli has reached the 30-point plateau … St. Marys will take on cross-town rival Elk County Catholic in the title game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Marys High School. Both teams enter the game with perfect records. St. Marys is 10-0 and ECC is 9-0. ECC has won the past three Elk County Tournaments and six of the past eight. St. Marys is looking for its first Elk County Tournament title since winning the second of back-to-back titles in 1998.
