CURWENSVILLE – DuBois Central Catholic outscored Curwensville 54-28 in the second half on its way to an 85-50 AML South win over the Golden Tide Wednesday night in Curwensville.

DCC (8-1 overall, 3-0 AML South) broke the game open with a 17-0 run late in the third quarter.

The Cardinals led 43-33 with 3:30 left in the third quarter before reeling off 17 unanswered points in a span of 2:16 to take a 27-point lead.

Christian Spilman, who had scored only two points before the run, triggered the spurt with a long 3-pointer. He then dished to Michael Hassan for another three and hit three of his own from outside before adding a layup off a steal. Two more DCC steals ended with layups from Hassan with Spilman picking up an assist on one of them.

Curwensville (3-5, 1-2) trailed by three, 16-13, early in the second period before Max Moclock nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing and then converted two putbacks to bring the lead to 10 points midway through the quarter. Only six points from David Kalgren, including four from the free-throw line, helped the Golden Tide keep the deficit under double digits, 31-22, at halftime.
