BROOKVILLE — The Brookville Lady Raiders ended a losing streak that lasted nearly seven years, but more importantly kept themselves in the early-season traffic jam at the top of the District 9 League standings.

The Lady Raiders (6-5 overall, 4-0 D9 League) outlasted visiting Punxsutawney, 30-28, Thursday night and beat the Lady Chucks for the first time since Feb. 2, 2001, a losing streak that lasted 14 games.

The Lady Chucks (4-7, 2-2) had a chance to tie or take the lead in the final 19.3 seconds of regulation, but Jube Parise had to force up a three-pointer from a crowded wing as Brookville held on for the win.

Brookville trailed 17-13 with 2:38 left in the second quarter, but closed the half on an 8-1 run to lead 21-18 at intermission. The run continued in the third quarter as the Lady Raiders outscored Punxsutawney, 6-3.

But in this low-scoring, cold-shooting affair, the lead wasnÕt totally safe. Jenna ReitzÕs three-pointer got Punxsutawney within 29-26 with 5:08 left in the fourth quarter. The next points didnÕt come until the 1:30 mark when Allie MillerÕs basked cut BrookvilleÕs lead to 29-28.

Jessica ByerlyÕs made the first of two free throws in a one-and-one situation with 20.7 seconds to set the final score. Brookville won despite scoring nine points in the second half and making just two field goals.

Kate Reinsel led Brookville with 11 points and was the only player to reach double figures. PariseÕs six points paced Punxsutawney.

BrookvilleÕs win, its fifth in six games, kept pace with St. Marys and Elk County Catholic, who are both 3-0 in league play. Those two meet at St. Marys Saturday. St. Marys beat ECC 57-43 last week in a non-league matchup in the Elk County Tournament Championship game.

Punxsutawney lost its fourth game in five tries.
