ST. MARYS – For the second straight game, Clearfield
struggled in the first half, and this time the Bisons couldn’t overcome those struggles losing 55-46 at Elk
County Catholic in D9 League play Thursday night.
ECC, the eighth ranked team in the RRR Roadhouse
D9Sports.com rankings, led 17-8 at the end of the first quarter and 31-15 at halftime. Rebounding had a lot to do
with the Crusaders lead, as ECC (12-2 overall, 3-2 D9 League) outrebound Clearfield, ranked seventh, 18-7 in the
first half.
Clearfield (10-4, 4-2) came back a bit in the second
half outscoring ECC 31-24.
Nate Higgins led all scorers with 20 points for ECC
while adding seven rebounds. Kiel Nissel chipped in with 15 points and eight boards for the Crusaders, while Logan
Haberberger added 10 rebounds to go with six points. Nick Wortman had 12 tallies.
Todd Hryn had eight points and eight rebounds for
Clearfield, while Parker Harrington and Jarrin Campman each had 10 points.
NOTES – Clearfield shot 32.1 percent (17 of 53),
while ECC shot 51.3 percent (20 of 39) … ECC continued to struggle from the free-throw line making just 10 of 21
charity shots. Clearfield was 7 of 10.
