PORT ALLEGANY – Going into Friday night’s game at Port Allegany, Coudersport head coach Brian Green expressed some concern about how his team would react to playing in a building it hadn’t played well at in recent years.

And in the first three minutes of the game, Green’s concerns grew as Port Allegany jumped out to a 6-0 advantage.

However, the Coudersport defense shifted gears, and Coudersport, ranked No. 1 in Class A in the RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com District 9 rankings, won its 11th game in a row with an emphatic 83-34 victory over the Lady Gators.

“We haven’t played very well her the past couple of years,” Green said. “We knew this would be a good test in a hostile environment. I was happy with the way we played.”

Coudersport had scoring runs of 25-6 and 24-0 in the first half to build a 51-20 halftime lead.

Kristy Kamper, who scored her 1,000th career point Wednesday, led the charge scoring 19 of her game-high 21 points in the first half. Jessica Wilson added 14 points, putting her just 31 points away from the 1,000-point club, and Maureen McCusker added 11 points for Coudersport (12-2 overall, 5-0 NTL).

Jenn Anderson led Port Allegany (8-7, 2-3) with 16 points.

Both teams resume league play Tuesday with Port Allegany traveling to Otto-Eldred, and Coudersport visiting Northern Potter.

NOTES – Coudersport has now won 34 straight NTL games … Sabrina Hershey had eight rebounds for Coudersport, while Kamper had six and Kelly McVay five to go with four assists. Kayla Bohn chipped in with five assists, and Wilson had seven rebounds and five blocked shots … Coudersport is 86-3 since the start of the 2001-02 season in NTL play.
