EMPORIUM – With two free throws with just under two minutes left in Cameron County’s 70-34 win over visiting Smethport Friday night, Cameron County’s Jordan Crane became the seventh player in school history to reach 1,000 in his career.

Needing 20 points coming into the night, Crane picked up points 20 and 21, his final two of the night on two free throws with just less than two minutes left in the game. He finished the game with 1,001 career tallies. 

“Getting to break 1,000 points didn’t come easy,” Crane said. “I was real tired, but now we, as a team, can get down to business.”

Cameron County was all business against Smethport using a big second half to put away a close game at halftime.

The Red Raiders led 27-22 at the break but outscored Smethport 43-12 in the second half including 28-4 in the fourth quarter.

“I was proud of the way things went tonight,” Cameron County head coach John Barnhart said. “I really liked how we responded as a team in the second half.”

Crane’s 21 points led Cameron County  and he had a double-double with 10 rebounds, while Charlie Holjencin added 16 points and seven steals and Daniel Sullivan 11 points.

Randy Scott led Smethport with 10 points, while Zach Myers added nine.

NOTES – Cameron County scored 40 points off of 23 Smethport turnovers … The last Cameron County player to break 1,000 points was Shane Goss, who finished his career in 2000 with 1,815, the second most in school history … Brandon Housler is the school’s all-time leading scorer and the third-leading scorer in District 9 history with 2,084. Goss ranks seventh in D9 history in scoring … The Red Raiders won the JV game 54-13.
