BRADFORD – After a sluggish first quarter, Elk County Catholic used a tenacious defense along with the scoring of Emily Detsch and Bre Grimone to record its 14th win of the season 44-34 over Bradford Tuesday night in Bradford.

Trailing 9-8 early in the second quarter, the Lady Crusaders (14-1 overall, 7-0 D9 League), the RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com No. 2 team in District 9, used an 8-0 burst to take a 16-9 lead and never trailed again.

Detsch scored nine of her 14 points in the first half helping ECC take a 20-17 halftime lead, and Grimone took over in the third quarter scoring eight of her 14 points in the quarter to help the Lady Crusaders expand the lead to 33-23 at the end of the quarter.

Bradford (6-9, 2-5) got within eight points in the fourth quarter but no closer.

Katie White led the Lady Owls with 14 points, but ECC limited leading scorer Shelly Fuhrman to eight.

Bradford is back in action Thursday at Brookville, while ECC is at DuBois Saturday.
