CURWENSVILLE – David Kalgren’s putback with eight seconds remaining lifted Curwensville to its biggest win of the season 55-54 over visiting Kane, the top ranked Class AA team in the RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com District 9 rankings.

Mike Punk, who led Kane (12-7) with 21 points, got an open look for a jumper from the left side on an inbounds play with 1.3 seconds left, but the ball sailed over the basket at the buzzer sounded.

Kane  led by seven, 44-37, after scoring the first point of the fourth quarter, but Curwensville scored the next seven points to forge the first of two ties in the period. The lead changed hands five times with Kenny Kane’s basket giving Kane its last edge, 54-53, with 2:10 left.

There was no more scoring until Kalgren’s game-winner. He scored nine of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter for Curwensville (7-11), which ended a four-game losing streak.

The Golden Tide, getting a tremendous spark from sophomore reserve Jed Greslick, led most of the first half in a game that was tied 12 times including six times in the second period. Curwensville’s biggest lead of the game was 30-25 in the final minute if the first half after Greslick knocked down a 3-pointer and fed Tyler Johnsons for a layup. Greslick scored all 11 of his points in the first half including two baskets after steals.

Kane was able to get back within two, 30-28, at halftime, and then the Wolves scored the first seven points of the third quarter behind John Bizzak and Mike Punk. Kane then held the upper hand until early in the fourth quarter.

NOTES – Kane shot 46 percent (23 of 50) and Curwensville 41.8 (23 of 55) … Kane, with six players taller than any Golden Tide, had a 31-22 edge in rebounds … The Wolves had 19 turnovers including five in the fourth quarter.
