By Rich Rhoades BROOKVILLE – With just one more home game left on the schedule, the Brookville Lady Raiders figured they better take advantage of some home cooking before they hit the road for a five-game road trip. The Lady Raiders got a season-high 14 points from sophomore guard Brynna Hetrick in a 47-33 victory over DuBois Central Catholic Monday night in Brookville. Brookville had also beaten DCC, 48-40, in the championship game of its Christmas Tournament. Brookville improved to 9-9 with the non-league win. The Lady Raiders had come in losers in four of their last six games, so a win over DCC was badly needed considering the team embarks on a road trip starting Wednesday at DuBois and ending Feb. 5 with a game at St. Marys. Central fell to 10-8. It was the first of six straight games on the road for the Lady Cardinals, who won’t play at home again until Feb. 4. For Hetrick, it was the fourth time she achieved her career high this season. She scored 11 of her points in the first half and made 5 of 9 shots from the field, including all three of her three-point shots. Kate Reinsel also reached double figures for Brookville with 11 points. Andrea Moyer led Central with 12 points. She was coming off a career-high 28-point effort in last Friday’s overtime win over Johnsonburg. But she, along with the rest of the Lady Cardinals, couldn’t finish off some good looks at the basket. Central shot 23.5 percent from the field. The Lady Cardinals’ last lead of the game came on Moyers’ two free throws that put DCC up 15-13 with 6:06 left in the second quarter. Not long after that, Moyer left the game with three fouls and Brookville regained the lead for good on Hetrick’s three-pointer at the 5:53 mark. Hetrick’s bomb started a 10-0 run that put Brookville up 23-15. The Lady Raiders led at the half, 24-17. Miller Hopkins’ basket at the 6:36 mark of the third quarter got Central within 26-24, but a basket by Jessica Byerly and back-to-back threes from Hetrick and Morgan Castle built Brookville’s lead back to 10 at 34-24 with 2:10 left in the third. Central would get within single digits only one more time the rest of the way. The Lady Raiders led by as many as 16 late in the fourth before settling on the final margin.
