HYDE – Junior Sarah Kovalick, making her first varsity start, poured in 23 points including five 3-pointers to help Clearfield end its 7-game losing streak with a 63-41 non-league win over visiting Ridgway Monday night.

Elizabeth Peters added 12 points for the Lady Bisons (5-11), while Emily Mitchell led Ridgway (1-19) with 18 points and Kirstie Shirey had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Bekka Leitzel also added 10 points for the Lady Elkers.

Eight of Mitchell’s point came in the last 4:04 of the third quarter helping Ridgway trim a 15-point deficit, 36-21, to 12, 41-29, at the end of the period. She also banked in a one-handed shot that made it 43-34 with 6:26 left.

But Kovalick hit a free throw followed by her fifth trey to make it 49-34, and Clearfield extended the margin to 53-34 with 4:12 to play.

Kovalick hit three treys, and Peters added two field in Clearfield 14-4 first quarter.

NOTES – The Lady Bisons were playing shorthanded with lone senior Alanna Luzier out with a dislocated thumb suffered in last Tuesday’s game at St. Marys. Lady Bison sophomore starter Madison Sopic has been out since Dec. 31 with an ankle injury.
