Austin's Valenti reaches 1,000 career points

AUSTIN – Rayna Valenti became the seventh player in Austin girls’ basketball history to score 1,000 career points when she went over the milestone in a 54-44 loss to visiting Port Allegany Wednesday night.

Valenti, the eighth District 9 girls’ player to reach 1,000 points this year, started the game needing seven points to reach 1,000 and finished the night with a team-high 15 points and 1,008 in her career. She reached her 1,000^th point on an outside shot with 3:10 left in the second quarter.

The game was deadlocked at 16 at halftime, but Port Allegany (11-8 overall, 5-4 NTL) took a 31-27 lead at the end of three quarters before outscoring the Lady Panthers (9-9, 2-7) 23-17 in the fourth quarter including going 12 of 16 from the line in the quarter.

Kaitlyn Kio led Port Allegany with 22 points, while Shanel Halle added 13 and Lauren Delacour 12.

Whitney Crosby chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists for Austin, which has lost four straight and 8 of 10 since starting the year 7-1.

NOTES - Valenti is the third Valenti girl at Austin to reach 1,000 career points joining her cousins, Angela and Kayla, in the club.
