Emily Thompson scored 19 points to lead Punxsutawney past Clearfield

HYDE – Punxsutawney avenged a 3-point home loss to Clearfield Dec. 7 with a 41-23 win over the Lady Bisons Wednesday night in Clearfield.

It was the sixth time this season the Lady Chucks (7-11 overall, 4-4 D9 League) have averted a 3-game losing streak.

Punxsutawney jumped in front 6-0 right off the bat on a pair of 3-pointers by Jube Parise in the first two minutes and never led by less the five in the first half and less than seven in the second half.

Emily Thompson carried the Punxsutawney offense in the second half scoring eight points in the third quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers, and six in the fourth on her way to a game-high 19 points.

Sarah Kovalick had Clearfield’s only two field goals in the first half and finished with a team-high seven points. The Lady Bisons (5-12, 1-7) trailed 17-9 at halftime.

NOTES – Clearfield was 2 of 20 shooting in the first half (10 percent) and 7 of 51 (13.7 percent) in the game. The Lady Bisons also turned the ball over 20 times including 15 times in the first half … Punxsutawney shot 39 percent (16 of 41) for the game.
