KNOX – Keystone rode a 29-19 advantage in the middle two quarters to a key 57-51 win over visiting West Forest in KSAC-West girls’ basketball action Friday night. Keystone’s win coupled with Cranberry’s upset loss to Venango Catholic puts the first-place Lady Panthers (18-2 overall, 14-1 KSAC-West) two games up on the second-place Lady Berries (15-5, 12-3) with four left to play. It also eliminates West Forest (13-5, 9-5) from title contention. West Forest, which has dropped two straight after winning 12 in a row, led 18-14 at the end of the first quarter before Keystone took a 28-26 halftime lead. The Lady Panthers then extended that lead to 43-37 at the end of three quarters. Sophomore Sam Schwabenbauer paced the Keystone offense with 19 points and 10 rebounds on 7 baskets and a 5-for-5 night from the free-throw line, while Cassy Hinderliter added 14 points, 11 steals and eight assists. Britt Mohney chipped in with 10 points including eight on four baskets in the fourth quarter. Geena Sneeringer, another sophomore, led all scorers with 23 points for Keystone including a 13 of 22 night from the free-throw line. Erica Blum chipped in with 16 points and seven steals, while Jackie Lutz had six points and 10 rebounds. Poor free-throw shooting plagued both teams. Keystone shot just 45.8 percent (11 of 24) from the line, while West Forest was 57.1 percent (20 of 35) from the line.
