SHEFFIELD – Down by two entering the fourth quarter, Sheffield exploded for 24 points in the final frame to defeat visiting Kane 59-46 in an AML North girls’ showdown Saturday. Kane (12-8 overall, 4-3 AML North) led 37-35 going to the fourth quarter, but Sheffield (10-10, 3-3) outscored the Lady Wolves 24-9 in the quarter to get the 13-point victory. Tess Vargas led the way for Sheffield with 24 points, four steals and three assists. She was 7 of 9 from the free-throw line. Amanda Craker added nine points and 12 rebounds, while Kesha Silvis added 10 points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots. Caryn Copley also had 10 points, and Kayla Steffan blocked two shots as well while handing out three assists and scoring two tallies. Bree Bergman led Kane with 19 points. Sheffield is at Elk County Catholic Monday, while Kane hosts Brockway Tuesday.
