East Forest's Snyder reaches 1,000 career points

East Forest's Corey Snyder scored his 1,000th career point and finished the game with 24 tallies and 1,022 career points

BROCKWAY – East Forest’s Corey Snyder joined his older brother, Bobby, in the 1,000-point club at the school when he scored 24 points in a 67-54 loss at Brockway Monday night.

Snyder needed two points going into the night to get 1,000 and did it when he hit a 3-pointer midway through the first quarter. He finished the night with 1,022 career points after shooting 6 of 10 from 3-point range and 43 percent overall for the game.

East Forest (2-18) hung in the game with Brockway (6-14) thanks to 12 3-pointers in the game.

Brockway, which was led by 20 points and 14 rebounds from Mark Shannon, led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored East Forest 42-24 in the middle two quarters to open up a 57-35 lead. But the Bears hit four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to make the score closer.

Tyler Andring added 15 points for East Forest including two 3-pointers, while Zach Miller hit four triples and scored 14 points.

Armando Fortunato added 11 points for Brockway including a 3-pointer, while Nathan Shaffer had eight tallies including two triples as the Rovers hit four three’s of their own.

NOTES – Corey Snyder is the 11th boys’ player in East Forest history to score 1,000 career points and the first since his brother had 1,284 in a career that ended in 2006. Bobby Snyder is the third all-time leading scorer in school history behind Doug Schneider (2,039) and Pat McClellan (1,357). Corey Snyder moved into 10th place in school history in scoring later in the game ahead of Skip Shick (1,018) … Corey Snyder is the second East Forest player to reach 1,000 points this season as Alicia Ponegalek achieved the feat for the girls’ team earlier in the year … With the 24-point game, Snyder moved past Union’s Scott Booth for the overall boys’ scoring average lead in District 9 this season. Snyder is averaging 20.7 ppg, while Booth is averaging 20.4 after scoring 17 Monday night.
