CURWENSVILLE – Using a 13-0 run at the end of the first half, DuBois Central Catholic grabbed 19-point halftime lead on its way to a 53-39 win over Curwensville in AML girls’ basketball action Tuesday night.

 

The Lady Cardinals, who have locked up another South Division title, improved to 7-2 in the league and 12-9 overall while handing the winless Lady Tide their 20th defeat.

 

Curwensville, which trailed 18-12 at the end of the first quarter, was still down six, 25-19, following a conventional three-point play by Alesia Bressler with 4:43 left in the half.

 

But DCC ran off the next 13 points to take a 38-19 halftime lead.

 

Miller Hopkins started the run with a pair of baskets, Andrea Moyer, who scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the first quarter, added a trey and then Nicole Braun, Rachel O’Connor and Kim Cadori each scored to extend the spurt.

 

Braun and Hopkins each added eight points for DCC, while Hannah Walls scored 15 points for the Lady Tide, who outscored DCC 14-6 in the final period to make the final score respectable.

 

DCC hit 20 of 52 shots for 38.5 percent and outrebounded the hosts 27-19. Curwensville made 17 field goals in 43 attempts for 39.5 percent.
