KANE – Elk County Catholic claimed its fourth straight AML North crown and its fifth consecutive AML title of one sort or another with a 48-37 win at Kane Monday night.

Kiel Nissel led a balanced Crusaders attack with 13 points, while Nate Higgins and Logan Haberberger each scored eight points and Nick Wortman seven.

ECC (18-3 overall, 9-1 AML North) led 13-10 at halftime and 27-20 at the end of the third quarter before both teams found some offense in the  fourth quarter combining to score 38 points including 21 by the Crusaders.

Kane (14-8, 5-3) was paced by 13 points from Cory Waigand, but ECC held senior John Bizzak, who had scored 71 combined points in his past two games including 46 against Tidioute Charter, to just three points, all on free throws. Bizzak wasn’t good from the line either hitting just 3 of 11 charity shots. Mike Punk and Sean Perry each added six points for Kane.

ECC is back in action Tuesday when it hosts Punxsutawney in a D9 League game, while Kane returns to the hardwood Wednesday when it entertains Johnsonburg in an AML Contest.

NOTES – ECC will meet DuBois Central Catholic in the AML Title game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Marys High School. It is the third straight year the two have meet in the AML Championship game with the teams splitting. ECC won in 2006 on its way to the PIAA Class A title while DCC took home last year’s crown on its way to a PIAA Class A runner-up finish. This is the third year of the AML Title Game (the first schedules AML Title game in 2005 was cancelled because of weather).
