By Blaise O'Connor PORT ALLEGANY – Coudersport completed a perfect 24-0 regular season Friday night with a 65-30 North Tier League win at Port Allegany. It was all about defense for the Falcons (24-0 overall, 14-0 NTL), as Port Allegany didn’t score a field until for the first 7:20 of the first half and didn’t get its second until 2:08 was left in the half. But that time, Blair Heimel had scored 14 of his game-high 21 points helping Coudersport build a 30-11 halftime lead. “Our man-to-man defense was as good as it’s been in quite some time,” Coudersport head coach Chris Fink said. “ Derek Burdick chipped in with 12 points for the Falcons, who won their fourth consecutive NTL title and stretched their league winning streak to 59 consecutive games. But none of that will mean anything next week when Coudersport enters the District 9 playoffs 0-0 like everyone else. The Falcons will host the winner of Tuesday night’s Johnsonburg-Union game Friday night. “This is a very deep bracket,” Fink said. “There are plenty of good teams in Class A this season, and we will be facing one of them in our next game.” Port Allegan (15-9, 7-7), which was led by eight points from Derek Morey a day after Morey scored 31 in a double overtime win over Northern Potter, will also be in the District 9 Playoffs and will host Brockway in an opening round Class AA match-up Tuesday. NOTES – Coudersport has now won 43 straight regular-season games since losing to St. Marys 73-58 Dec. 16, 2006. The Falcons have also won 113 of their last 126 games (regular season and playoffs) since starting the 2004 season 2-5 … The Falcons played their third straight game without second-leading scorer John Hau, who tore an ACL a couple of weeks ago. Hau, who scored his 1,000th career point the last time he was on the court, might still try to play during the District 9 playoffs … Heimel is 53 points shy of 1,000 career points. He would be the fourth member of Coudersport’s Class of 2008 to record 1,000 points this season joining Hau on the boys’ team and Jessica Wilson and Kristy Kamper on the girls’ team … Coudersport is the only District 9 boys’ or girls’ team to go unbeaten this season during the regular season and the first team to do it since 2006 when Elk County Catholic was 24-0 on its way to a perfect 33-0 and the PIAA Class A boys’ championship.
