COUDERSPORT – Sluggish through three quarters, Coudersport exploded for 31 fourth-quarter points on its way to a 57-27 win over visiting Northern Potter in North Tier League girls’ action Monday night. The Lady Falcons (21-2 overall, 13-0 NTL), who had already clinched the conference title, led by just four, 26-22, going to the fourth quarter but outscored Northern Potter (16-7, 8-5) 31-5 in the final eight minutes. “We had to fight through some illnesses and some injuries,” Coudersport head coach Brian Green said. “Finally, in the fourth quarter, I called time-out and challenged the girls. Out of the time-out, Jordan Bright hit a three and then we stole the inbounds pass and Karli Duffee hit a three and off we went.” Kristy Kamper led Coudersport with 14 points, nine rebounds, six steals and four assists, while Jessica Wilson added 10 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three blocked shots. Duffee added 12 points including a pair of three-pointers, Kelly McVay had nine points and five rebounds and Kayla Bohn had eight points and five helpers. Brittany Rounds led Northern Potter with eight points, while Katelyn Smoker added six points and seven rebounds. Nikki Thompson also had seven boards for the Lady Panthers. Coudersport led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter and then seemed to take control of the game by outscoring Northern Potter 11-2 in the second quarter to take a 24-11 halftime lead. But Northern Potter, which has lost two straight after winning six of eight, charged back in the third quarter outscoring Coudersport 11-2 to close back within four points. Both teams conclude their regular seasons Wednesday with Coudersport looking for its third straight unbeaten league record when it travels to Otto-Eldred and Northern Potter hosting Port Allegany. Both teams will then be back in action in the District 9 Class A Playoffs next week. NOTES – Green hasn’t lost an NTL game as a head coach since the 2004 season when he was at Northern Potter. In 2005, his last at NoPo, the Lady Panthers went 14-0 and his first two Coudersport teams were 14-0 followed by this year’s 13-0 record. Including winning his final NTL league with Northern Potter in 2004, Green-coached teams have won 56 straight NTL contests.
