BRADFORD – Bradford used a 46-25 second-half advantage to beat Clearfield 79-51 and win the outright D9 League title Monday night in Bradford.

It is Bradford’s first league crown since 2003-2004, and while the Owls technically would have still won the title with a loss (they would have been 10-2 and ECC 9-2 because the Crusaders had cancelled a game), the win solidifies that title.

“I’m proud of my guys and extremely happy for our seven seniors,” Bradford head coach Dave Fuhrman said. “We beat a good team tonight that is having an excellent season. This is not an easy league to win with the travel, the great coaching and the stiff competition you face in every league game.

Since our loss to Elk Jan. 15, we have had no margin of error in the league. We knew e had to win out if wanted the league championship, which we did.”

The Owls (16-7 overall, 11-1 D9 League) used a balanced scoring attack to win the game with all five Bradford starters scoring in double figures.

Senior swingman Ryan LaBrozzi had another outstanding effort with 19 points, eight rebounds, 6 steals and five assists. Center Ben Lanich added 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five blocked shots.

“The big guy was very active tonight on both ends of the floor,” Fuhrman said. “He and LaBrozzi were on top of their games tonight.”

Drew Kelly scored 14 points, Randy Confer 11 and Tommy Taylor 10 including a 25-foot three-pointer that beat the buzzer at the end of the first half giving the Owls a 7-point halftime lead.

“Tommy’s three-point bomb gave us a lot of momentum going to the second half,” Fuhrman said. “We came out and played one of our best halves all season in the second half.”

Todd Hryn led the Bisons (18-6, 8-4) with 16 points, while Jarrin Campman had 12 and Matt Shiner 11.

Bradford closes out its regular season Wednesday when it hosts Warren in a make-up game, while Clearfield is back in action Thursday in the District 9 Class AAA playoffs when its hosts Punxsutawney in the lone semifinal contest. Bradford has a bye into the D9 Class AAA title game.
