VENANGO CATHOLIC TO HOLD SECOND ANNUAL COACHES VS. CANCER EVENT WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY |
|
OIL CITY – Venango Catholic High School will be holding its second annual Coaches vs. Cancer event Wednesday and Thursday during the girls’ and boys’ basketball games those days. The Lady Vikings take on West Forest (JV Tip at 6 p.m.) Wednesday, and the Vikings face off against Cranberry (JV Tip at 6 p.m.) Thursday. “This is a fundraising event to benefit the American Cancer Society,” Venango Catholic’s boys’ coach Ed McIntyre said. “Last basketball season, VC lost a student, Eric Jamison, to cancer, and this year, we lost the mother, Mary Cross, of a student, Shane Cross, to cancer. This event is held in their memory.” According to McIntyre, individuals and businesses have made donations, and there will be raffles for donated items all to help raise money to donate to the American Cancer Society. “A portion of the tae and the 50/50 also is donated to the ACS,” McIntyre said. “Last year, it was a pretty big event with a packed house. We’re hoping for the same thing this year.” For more information on the American Cancer Society, visit its web site at www.cancer.org.
