Courier-Express & Ridgway Record DuBOIS – Seth Streich accounted for Johnsonburg’s last 12 points, including all 10 in overtime to lead the fifth-seeded Rams to a 60-55 win over fourth-seeded DuBois Central Catholic in the District 9 Class A Quarterfinals Friday night in DuBois. Streich hit two free throws with 15 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and then hit a basket at the start of overtime before going 8-for-8 from the free-throw line the rest of the extra session. His two charity shots with 1:54 left in overtime gave Johnsonburg (20-6) a 54-52 lead it would never relinquish. Streich scored 16 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter and overtime and hit 12 of 13 free throws in the game while shooting 8 of 22. DCC (17-7) held a 46-42 lead with just under three minutes to play following back-to-back baskets by Chris Marshall, who had 26 points and 19 rebounds. But Johnsonburg tied the game at 46 with just under two minutes to play before DCC took two more leads, first 48-46 then 50-48, it couldn’t hold. The win landed the Rams in next Wednesday’s semifinals against top-seeded North Clarion at Clarion University at a time to be announced. It also earned them a state playoff bid for the first time since 2004. Johnsonburg also ended a two-game quarterfinal losing streak at DCC. The Rams were eliminated by the Cardinals at DCC in the 2005 and 2007 quarterfinals. Instead, it’ll be DCC going home for the season. This year, it was the Rams who had a hex on the Cardinals. Friday night’s win was the Rams’ third win over the Cardinals at DCC in 14 days. Last Saturday, Johnsonburg beat DCC in the AML Championship game, 48-41. It also beat the Cardinals 56-47 on Feb. 7. DCC beat the Rams, 62-58, in Johnsonburg on Jan. 9. Joining Streich, who also had 10 rebounds, in double figures for Johnsonburg was Aaron Patrick with 14 points and Ren Yonker with 12 points. NOTES – Only four players scored for the Rams with Joe Holmberg adding six points … Johnsonburg is looking for its first trip to the District 9 title game since 2004 and its first D9 title since 1983.
