AUSTIN – After becoming the first basketball team in school history to earn a trip to states last year as the fourth seed in the District 9 Class A playoffs, the Austin Lady Panthers clinched another state berth in a predictably tight 4-5 seed game with visiting Johnsonburg.

And they worked overtime to do it.

Cassey Stuckey’s basket with 9.2 seconds left in overtime led Austin to a 53-51 win over Johnsonburg, pushing Austin (22-2) into next Tuesday’s semifinals against top-seeded Elk County Catholic at a site and time to be announced.

While Stuckey scored 18 points and had four steals, senior Whitney Crosby scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. She hit two free throws near the end of regulation to force extra time.

Justis Myers led the Ramettes (17-9) with 15 points. Ellie Kocjancic and Bobbi Pritt also reached double figures with 14 and 10 points respectively. Johnsonburg’s top scorer, senior Abby Grumley, didn’t score in the first half and finished with six points.
