DUBOIS – After a heartbreaking loss to Coudersport in the District 9 Class A semifinals Tuesday night, West Forest went right back to its winning ways knocking off Austin 54-41 in the District 9 consolation game Friday night at DuBois High School. Geena Sneeringer scored 28 points, including 15 from the free-throw line, and added five assists and five steals, while Amanda Carll had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Erica Blum eight points and seven steals helping West Forest (24-3) set a school record for wins. Whitney Crosby paced Austin, which shot 13 free throws to West Forest’s 40, with 12 points. Both teams advance to the PIAA Playoffs. West Forest will take on the District 10 champion – Kennedy Catholic or Eisenhower – while Austin (22-4) will face WPIAL champion North Catholic. NOTES – The 24 wins for West Forest surpass the previous school record of 23 set in 1982 … West Forest met Eisenhower in the opening round of last year’s PIAA Playoffs, losing at Clarion University’s Tippin Gym … Austin lost the consolation game for the second straight year to a KSAC team. Last season, the Lady Panthers fell to Clarion in the consolation game. |
