EDINBORO – Geena Sneeringer scored 32 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead West Forest to a 53-38 win over District 10 champion Kennedy Catholic in the opening round of the PIAA Class A girls’ playoffs Saturday afternoon at Edinboro University.

Sneeringer’s 32 points were momentarily a high in a PIAA playoff game for a District 9 girls’ player since records started being kept in 2001. The previous high was 31 set by Coudersport’s Kristy Kamper last year. But Sneeringer only held the high for a couple of hours, as St. Marys’ Kayla Hoohuli scored 34 in a loss later Saturday.

Erica Blum chipped in 10 points for West Forest, which won its first PIAA playoff game since 1982.

West Forest trailed 18-13 at the end of the first quarter but outscored Kennedy Catholic 16-9 in the second quarter to take a 29-27 halftime lead. The Lady Indians then had a 24-11 second-half advantage.

West Forest (25-3), which finished third in District 9, will face Vincentian Academy in the second round Wednesday at a site and time to be announced.
