Falcons lose in regular season for first time since Dec. 16, 2006

BRADFORD – Bradford snapped Coudersport's 43-game regular-season win streak with a 46-41 win in the opener for both teams Friday night in Bradford.

 

It was Coudersport's first regular-season loss since a a 73-58 setback to St. Marys Dec. 16, 2006, in the championship game of the St. Marys Tournament. The Falcons went on to win their final 19 regular-season game in the 2006-2007 season and then went 24-0 in the regular season last year on its way to the District 9 Class A title.

 

“Both teams had a lot of new faces on the floor, and it really showed,” Bradford head coach Dave Fuhrman said. “Both teams struggled to score and there were a lot of empty trips up and down the floor by both teams.” 

 

Coudersport, which trailed 23-14 at halftime and 31-25 at the end of three quarters, cut the lead to one point midway through the fourth quarter before Bradford’s Evan Kline and Cody Coats made some key baskets for the Owls.

 

Kline, a junior swingman, scored six of his 10 points in the last four minutes of the fourth quarter, and Coats, a sophomore, had a big drive to the basket and two key foul shots when the game was tight.

 

“Fortunately, we stepped up and made some big shots when the game was on the line,” Fuhrman said. “It was an ugly win, but we’ll take it.

 

Senior Drew Kelly led the Owls with 15 points, while Brett Whitman led all scorers with 13 for the Falcons. Josiah Gerhart added 12 points for Coudersport.
