KNOX – After one game, Rocky Grove might be wishing it had stayed in District 9.

The Orioles, last season’s KSAC Champions and the third-place team in District 9 Class A before going back to District 10 for this season, ran all over former KSAC rival Clarion 68-30 in the opening round of the Keystone Tip-Off Tournament Friday night in Knox.

Rocky Grove used an unbelievable 51-10 run to turn a 9-5 deficit into a 56-19 lead.

“It was a learning experience,” Clarion head coach Jim Harmon said about his team, which has only three seniors on the roster. “We played a pretty well at the beginning of the game when we were calmer on the offensive end of the floor. Once we got down, we started pressing a little bit and guys tried to do too much with the ball. It was just a track meet, and we can’t really run with these guys.”

Sophomore Dylan Gravatt and senior Travis Melhuish each poured in 20 points for the Orioles, who shot 52.9 percent from the field (27 of 51) including 20 of 31 (64.5 percent) in the middle two quarters. The Orioles also outrebounded Clarion 39-22, including 14 rebounds from Melhuish and six from Gravatt. Clarion also turned the ball over 23 times.
