ST. MARYS – Johnsonburg used a 19-5 third-quarter advantage to hand Elk County Catholic just its second home AML loss since 2004 with a 59-51 win in an AML-North contest Tuesday night.

The Rams (1-1 overall, 1-0 AML-North) trailed 31-28 at halftime but dominated the third quarter to take a 47-36 lead at the end of the quarter.  Johnsonburg increased that lead to 51-39 early in the fourth quarter before ECC (1-1, 0-1) went on an 11-2 run to get within three with just over three minutes to play.

Johnsonburg, though, held off the comeback finishing the game on a 6-1 spurt.

Seth Streich led the Rams with 21 points on 10 of 12 shooting. Ren Yonker added 14 points, 11 assists and five rebounds, and Aaron Patrick had 10 points. Steve Carnessali chipped in 11 rebounds and four points.

Nate Higgins paced ECC with 21 points. Matt Bauer and Robby Wortman each had nine tallies.

NOTES – The last time ECC lost to an AML team other than Dubois Central Catholic was Feb. 14, 2003, when Johnsonburg beat the Crusaders 57-36 in Johnsonburg. That last time ECC lost at home to an AML team not named DCC was Jan. 25, 2003, when Johnsonburg won 49-48 in overtime. Since the Valentine Day loss to Johnsonburg in the regular-season finale of that 2003 season, ECC is 48-3 in AML action.
