BROOKVILLE – The St. Marys Flying Dutchmen rebounded Tuesday night from their first loss of the season over the weekend by defeating the Brookville Blue Raiders 66-49 in a District 9 League game at the Brookville.

Brett Quiggle led the way for the Dutch, pouring in 25 points and collecting 5 steals. Quiggle was 10-14 from the floor. Levi Welder added his fifth double-double of the season with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Welder was also a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line on the night.

Brookville also had two players in double figures, Chad Brocious and Dan Ion, both with 13 points on the night.

The young Blue Raiders stayed close to the senior laden Dutchmen throughout the first half. Brookville only trailed 14-11 after one quarter and 33-25 at the intermission.

But the more experienced Dutch squad used a 18-6 advantage in the third quarter to open up a twenty point lead heading into the final stanza, highlighted by Quiggle’s 12 points in the frame.

Brookville is now 2-3 overall (0-3 D9 League), and returns to action on December 29 when they travel to DuBois to take on the Beavers in another D9 League match up.

St. Marys, meanwhile, is 5-1 (2-1 D9), and returns to action this Friday, December 26, when they play Ridgway in the opening game of the Elk County Tournament. Tipoff time is set for 6:30 PM. In the nightcap, Johnsonburg will play host to Elk County Catholic, with the winners meeting at 8:00 PM Saturday night for the championship. All games will be played at the “Dutch Oven” at St. Marys Area High School.
