| By Patrick Walker SHEFFIELD - Cameron County took control early and cruised to an 83-58 win over Sheffield Friday in the opening round of the Sheffield Tournament. In the first quarter, Mike Malizia's eight points and Donald Catalone's six points put the Raiders ahead. Sheffield's Littlefield and Sixt's 3 pointers kept it close, but the Radiers held a 23-12 lead. The Wolverines would cut in to the Red Raider lead in the second quarter, behind six points from Sixt and five from Littlefield. After two quarters, Cameron County lead 39-32. The Red Raiders took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Sheffield 22 to 9 with Jarek Holjencin and Dan Sullivan scoring the first 12 points of the quarter. Sullivan led the Red Raiders with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting (75%), including seven steals and six rebounds. Holjencin finished with 20 points and 10 boards. Mike Malizia also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Lyle Shine led Sheffield with 19 points. Cameron County will face Kane, a 59-27 winner over Youngsville, in the title game of the Sheffield Tournament Saturday. Sheffield will take on Youngsville in the consolation game.
