PUNXSUTAWNEY – Punxsutawney used a strong defensive effort to knock DuBois 46-34 in a D9League girls’ game Monday night in Punxsutawney.

The Lady Chucks (3-4 overall, 2-1 D9 League) got 19 steals while holding DuBois to just 12 baskets. Amanda Toven led the way on defense with six steals, including five during the first quarter when Punxsutawney outscored DuBois 17-9. Lauren Janocha added five swipes for the Lady Chucks, who extended that lead to 36-17 at halftime.

Jenna Reitz and Allie Miller each scored 16 points to lead Punxsutawney with Reitz hitting three 3-pointers and adding six assists and four steals. Miller chipped in with eight rebounds and three assists, while Amanda Toven had five rebounds to go with two points.

Kirsten Wilcox paced DuBois (1-5, 0-2) with 16 points, the only Lady Beaver to have more than five.
