COUDERSPORT – Bucktail used a balanced scoring effort to hand Coudersport its first home loss in nearly five years 54-44 in the title game of the Coudersport Maple Leaf Tournament Monday night.

The Falcons last loss at home prior to Monday was a 75-71, two overtime defeat to Port Allegany Jan. 15, 2004, 56 games ago. The last regulation loss for Coudersport was 61 games ago when Johnsonburg beat the Falcons 59-49 Dec. 23, 2003.

Bucktail opened up a 24-17 halftime lead and then withstood a Coudersport charge that got the Falcons back within three, 33-30, at the end of three quarters by outscoring them 21-14 in the final eight minutes.

Five Bucktail players reached double figures to help offset 20 points from Coudersport’s Nate Minor.

NOTES – Coudersport still has a 61-game North Tier League win streak. The Falcons have gone 14-0 in the NTL in each of the last four season and are 1-0 this year after winning their last four NTL games of 2004. The last NTL loss was the double-overtime defeat to Port Allegany in 2004 … Coudersport’s last defeat in the Maple Leaf Tournament came in the 2002-2003 title game when Berlin-Brothersvalley beat the Falcons 51-47. Coudersport had won five straight tournament titles.
