KANE – Abby Grumley’s steal and layup at the horn gave Johnsonburg a 51-50 road win over Kane in an AML-North girls’ matchup Friday night. The Ramettes trailed 50-49, and Kane had the ball with six seconds to play. But an inbound pass intended for Bree Bergman was intercepted by Grumley who then took it in for the game-winning basket. That capped off a 16-point night for Grumley, which led Johnsonburg (6-3 overall, 2-1 AML-North). The Ramettes led 28-16 at halftime but watch Kane (7-2, 1-2) storm back to take a 33-32 lead at the end of the third quarter thanks to a 17-4 advantage in the quarter. The game then remained a dog fight throughout the final eight minutes before Grumley’s heroics ended it. Bergman led all scorers with 20 points in a losing effort for Kane, and she added 10 rebounds. Ashley Wilson chipped in 12 points for the Lady Wolves, and Andrea Saquin had eight points and eight rebounds. But Johnsonburg held Chelsea Mague, who entered the game averaging 12.6 ppg, the second most on the team to zero points. Anna Polaski and Ellie Kocjancic each chipped in 11 points for Johnsonburg. NOTES – Johnsonburg head coach Mike Zilkofski was reported to have been ejected from the game. If that is the case, Zilkofski will have to sit out Johnsonburg’s game vs. Curwensville Tuesday according to PIAA rules … Kane trailed by as many as 14 in the game.
