BRADFORD – Bradford overcame a furious DuBois rally to pull out a 55-46 win over the Beavers Tuesday night in Bradford.

Bradford (6-5 overall, 2-3 D9 League) saw a 12-point lead completely evaporate on a Jordan LaBue 3-pointer that gave DuBois (2-10, 1-5) a 43-42 lead with just over five minutes to play.

But the Owls junior guard Pug Fuhrman drilled consecutive 3-pointer to give the Owls the lead back.

“We ran the same set play twice for Pug,” Dave Fuhrman, Pug’s father and Bradford’s head coach, said. “On the second one, he did a good job of reading the defense and flaring to the win for the shot.”

Bradford then sealed the victory by hitting 6 of 7 free throws down the stretch including 3 of 4 by Pug Fuhrman. Fuhrman finished with a game-high 20 points including five 3-pointers.

“Our guys could have folded when DuBois grabbed the lead,” Dave Fuhrman said. “But to our credit, we didn’t panic and kept our composure down the stretch.”

Bradford has now won three in a row including two in league play after a 4-game losing streak dropped its record to 3-5.

“Perhaps we are maturing,” Dave Fuhrman said. “These are the kind of games we were losing early in the season.”

DuBois, which trailed 31-22 at halftime after being outscored 21-10 in the first quarter, got itself back in the game by pounding the offensive boards. The Beavers enjoyed a 29-18 advantage on the glass including 14 offensive rebounds. Sophomore Garret Peterson played an outstanding game with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Ryan Mackey added nine points for Bradford, Tyler Grandy had seven and Evan Kline six. Mike White also played a key role with 10 assists.

“White played an excellent floor game for us,” Fuhrman said.

Bradford returns to action Friday when it hosts Punxsutawney, who is ranked eighth in District 9, while DuBois hosts Bellefonte in a non-league game.
