ST. MARYS – The Clearfield Bisons got a huge first half from Senior Matt Shiner and never looked back recording a 70-52 victory over host St. Marys Friday night in D9 League basketball play.

Shiner scored 20 of his 22 points in the first half hitting six 3-pointers before intermission.  He scored 14 points first quarter points alone helping Clearfield (8-1 overall, 4-1 D9 League) to a 19-17 lead after one quarter of play.

Shiner hit two three’s in the second quarter, and St. Marys continued it’s cold shooting of late allowing the Bisons to outscore the Dutch 20-13 in the quarter to take a 9-point halftime lead, 39-30.

In the second half it was all Clearfield, as the Dutchmen (8-4, 4-3) couldn’t mount any type of serious comeback getting outscored in every quarter of play.

Helping Shiner for the Bisons were Jarrin Campman, who finished with 21 points, and Trey Campman, who added 14.

St. Marys was led by Levi Welder’s game-high 23 points. Matt Guido added 11 points and Brett Quiggle contributed 10.

Clearfield returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Union. St. Marys will host Hollidaysburg at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Game notes: Shiner hit 6 of his teams 10 three pointers on the night….St. Marys finished 9-37 from behind the arc.  They are now only 14 for their last 68 in the back-to-back loses….The two teams combined to hit 19 3-point field goals.
