ST. MARYSThe St. Marys Flying Dutchmen dropped their third straight game Monday night, a non-league contest to the visiting Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers 72-48 at the “Dutch Oven” in St. Marys.

Hollidaysburg, a Class AAAA school, came to St. Marys and showed what a big school can do.  The Tigers started out scoring the first 11 points of the game and held a 15-2 advantage after one quarter of play. Joel Redfoot scored six points in the quarter and Luke Ottaway added five.

The Golden Tigers continued pouring it on, outscoring the Dutch 16-9 in the second quarter and holding a 31-11 lead at intermission. Hollidaysburg had eight players in the scoring column by halftime.

“They played an up tempo game and we turned the ball over 15 times in the first half,” commented St. Marys head coach Bryce Benson. “But it was a good experience for the kids. It will only help them get better in the long run.

“The one bright spot of the first half was freshman Justin Quiggle.  He did a very good job in his second game against a quality opponent.  He scored six points in the half and handled their pressure pretty well.  And in the second half we played much better as a team, and hopefully that will carry over to our next game.”

Ottaway finished as game high scorer for the Golden Tigers, scoring 16 points including four three pointers.  Redfoot added 10 points.

St. Marys was led by Matt Guido’s 12 points.  Brett Quiggle and Levi Welder each contributed nine points apiece.

St. Marys, now 8-5 overall, returns to action Wednesday night when the host the Kane Wolves.
