PUNXSUTAWNEY – Jordan LaBue scored 23 points to lead visiting DuBois to a 56-42 win at Punxsutawney, the No. 2 ranked team in District 9.

“I’m really excited for our players, especially our seniors,” DuBois head coach Scott Creighton said. “It’s tough to keep a positive attitude when losing has been a constant. This should give us a shot in the arm and show us that hard work eventually does pay off.”

Cody Schalk added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Beavers (3-11 overall, 2-5 D9 League), who led by just two, 20-18, at halftime before outscoring Punxsutawney (9-5, 5-3) 36-24 in the second half.

“Unselfish play and a great team effort will always lead to a positive outcome,” Creighton said.

The only real negatives for DuBois, which broke a 5-game losing skid, were free-throw shooting – the Beavers were just 14 of 24 from the line, and turnovers – DuBois had 16.

“Contrary to popular belief, when you win it doesn’t always mean you are doing everything right,” Creighton said. “And when you lose, it doesn’t mean you are doing everything wrong.”

Punxsutawney, which dropped its third straight game by double digits, got 16 points from Corey Neal and eight each from Jordan Walker and Jacob Stumpf.
