MARIENVILLE – Kelsey Rini exploded for a career-high 30 points while adding 16 rebounds to lead East Forest to a 61-43 win over visiting Venango Catholic Wednesday night.
Rini, who is now 14 points shy of 1,000 in her career, connected on 12 of 21 shots (57.1 percent) and 6 of 9 free throws. She had six offensive rebounds and 10 defensive boards helping the Lady Bears (6-7 overall, 4-6 KSAC-North) outrebound Venango Catholic 43-30. She added an assist and a steal on the night.
Ashley Oliver added 14 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocked shots for East Forest, which shot 40.3 percent (23 of 57) from the field.
Alison Scurry led Venango Catholic (1-14, 0-12) with 14 points, 10 steals and 11 rebounds, while Kayla Cook chipped in 10 points and five boards. The Lady Vikings shot just 26.2 percent (16 of 61) from the floor and 45 percent (9 of 20) from the free-throw line.
NOTES – Rini is trying to become the seventh girls’ player at East Forest to score 1,000 career points. All six have come since 1995 with five coming since 2000 … Rini is the first East Forest player to score 30 points since the Lady Bears joined District 9 in 2005.
