HYDE - Stingy defense and four free throws in overtime were enough to lift Clearfield past Brookville 42-38 in a D9 League thriller Friday night in Clearfield.

The Lady Bisons were ahead most of the way in avenging a 38-35 loss at Brookville Jan. 19 with their fourth win in a row, but the Lady Raiders staved off defeat in regulation on Morgan Castle's clutch steal and driving lay-up with 12.6 seconds remaining.

Clearfield's 1-3-1 zone made the difference in the extra four minutes, as Brookville misfired on nine shots, six of them from behind the three-point arc.

The Lady Bisons also failed on three field-goal attempts but evened their record at 8-8 by converting 4 of 10 foul shots.

Sarah Kovalick's free throw 13 seconds into overtime was the game-winner. Annie Janocko made it a two-point advantage with 29.4 seconds left, and Amber Byerly set the score at 41-38 with 25.9 seconds to go after grabbing Janocko's missed second try.

Kovalick added the final point with 3.6 seconds to play.

Brookville's only leads were 7-6 late in first quarter and 11-10 early in the second period, while Clearfield led by six points twice late in the first half and eight early in the third quarter.

Gwenn Porter scored a game-high 12 points as the Lady Bisons claimed third place in the D9 League at 5-4.

Brynna Hetrick's 11 points topped the Lady Raiders (9-6, 4-5).

She had three of Brookville's eight three-pointers. Jessica Byerly also had three, and Castle had two.

Clearfield shot 35 percent (14-for-40) and Brookville hit 31 percent (14-for-45.

The Lady Raiders outrebounded the Lady Bisons 29-23 with Janelle Mescall pulled down 10 missed shots.
