BRADFORD – In a game that had playoff intensity and atmosphere, the Bradford Owls defeated the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals 55-51 before big crowd in Bradford. “This was just a great high school basketball game,” Bradford head coach Dave Fuhrman said. “It had a lot of swings in momentum and a lot of clutch plays down the stretch.” The Owls (11-8), winners of four straight, trailed by one when Pug Fuhrman, the son of the coach, drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 1:55 to play giving Bradford a two-point lead it would never relinquish. Junior guard Mike White then iced the game by going 4-for-4 from the line in the final minute helping Bradford go 11 of 14 from the line in the fourth quarter while outscoring DCC (16-5), who came into the game ranked second in District 9 in the RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com rankings, 18-10 in the quarter. “We were outshot from the field 44 percent to 35 percent, and we were outrebounded,” Fuhrman said. “But we found a way to win.” Cory Viola led Bradford with 16 points and four steals, while sophomore Cody Coats had 10 rebounds. “We got a big lift on the board from Cody,” Fuhrman said. “And Cory continued his outstanding play of late.” John Ferracchio led DCC with 15 points, while Chris Marshall had 14. “John Ferraraccio and Chris Marshall are extremely strong inside and really just overpowered us around the basket for much of the night. We did come up with some key stop and rebounds and forced a few key turnovers when the game was on the line in the fourth quarter. “This game should really benefit both teams as a tune-up for the upcoming district playoffs. The District 9 Class A Playoffs should be very exciting, as there are a lot of good teams in the district, and tonight we beat one of the better team in the district regardless of classification. I’m very proud of our guys.” Class AAA Bradford hosts Elk County Catholic Wednesday in a D9 League game, while DCC will host ECC Friday in the semifinals of the AML Tournament.
