By Blaise O’Connor SHINGLEHOUSE – Cameron County used a 19-2 run in the first quarter to build a 22-7 lead at
the end of the quarter on its way to a 71-42 win at Oswayo Valley that clinched the North Tier League boys’
basketball title for the Red Raiders for the first time since 2003. “Lately, we have had our troubles in the first quarter,” Cameron County head coach Randy
Cooney said. “Tonight, we got off to a very good start and got control of the game.” Don Catalone scored 11 of the points during the 19-2 run and finished the game with 18
points and 12 rebounds for the Red Raiders (17-3 overall, 12-1 NTL). Dan Sullivan chipped in 17 points, while Jon
Lundberg added eight points while dishing out 10 assists. Oswayo Valley (14-7, 8-5) was led by seniors Orion Bernard and Joe Carson. Each scored 15
points in their final regular-season home game of their careers. Oswayo Valley closes its regular season with a game at Austin Thursday while Cameron County
has home games with Smethport Thursday and Bradford Friday. NOTES – The win seals the No. 3 seed in the upcoming District 9 Class A playoffs for the
Red Raiders, who will have a bye into the second round before most likely playing either Venango Catholic or Elk
County Catholic … Despite the loss, Oswayo Valley got some help from Cranberry, who beat Clarion-Limestone
Tuesday, that could give the Green Wave a home playoff game. Oswayo Valley might end up with the No. 8 seed and
play host to Clarion-Limestone if the tiebreaker works out for the Green Wave. The matchup is likely set, but the
location still needs to be determined. CAMERON COUNTY 71, OSWAYO VALLEY 42 Score by Quarters Cameron County 22 15 15 19 – 71 Oswayo Valley 7 9 12 14 – 42 Cameron County: 71 Donald Catalone 7 3-4 18, Daniel Sullivan 7 2-2 17, Chris Barnett 2 0-0 4, Jon Lundberg 3
