EMPORIUM – The Bradford Owls sprinted to a 17-1 first quarter lead and never looked back as they defeated the Cameron County Red Raiders 62-45 on the road Friday night.

“We got out of the gate strong and our pressure man was really bothering them early,” Bradford head coach Dave Fuhrman said. “Then we got into some foul trouble and had to back our pressure off and the game slowed down.”

With Bradford’s pressure off, Cameron made a run at the Owls in the third quarter and cut the lead to 34-30 before Bradford steadily rebuilt the lead to 46-33 by the end of the quarter

“Our guys maintained their poise and steadily rebuilt the margin to double digits,” Fuhrman said.

The Owls got a lift off their bench as senior forward Zach Frombach scored 11 points and sophomore Cody Coats grabbed 13 rebounds. Pug Fuhrman led the Owls with 19 points while Ryan Mackey also was in double figures with 14 points.

“Cameron County has some good athletes with some quickness who play very physical,” Fuhrman said. “We beat a very good team tonight.”

The Owls held the Red Raiders to only 28 percent shooting on 16 of 57 from the field.  Don Catalone was the lone Red Raider in double figures with 13 points.

The Red Raiders, champions of the Northern Tier League, end the regular season at 18-4 and will host the winner of the Elk County Catholic vs. Venango Catholic game next Friday in the D9 playoffs.

The Owls now 12-9 overall will host St. Marys on Tuesday in the final D9 League game that will determine the final seeding for the D9 AAA playoffs.
