ST. MARYS – A 20-7 second quarter advantage helped Elk County Catholic win its fourth straight AML Girls’ Title game with a 54-36 win over Johnsonburg Saturday night at St. Marys High School.

The Lady Crusaders (23-1), who have won all four AML Title Games played, led by four, 18-14, after the first quarter but used 10-0 run in the second quarter to break the game open on their way to a 38-21 halftime lead.

Bre Grimone and Kirstie Pistner each scored 14 points for ECC to help offset a game-high 25 points from Johnsonburg’s Ellie Kocjancic.

The Rams (16-8) played most of the first half and all of the second half without leading scorer Abby Grumley, who according to the Tri-County Sunday in DuBois, left the game in the first half with an apparent ankle injury. Grumley scored two points before getting hurt.

Both teams will be back in action in the District 9 Class A Playoffs. Johnsonburg hosts East Forest at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the first round, while top-seeded ECC will host the winner of the Cameron County-Otto-Eldred game at 7 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals.
